This year is where you will need to become more serious with your
work. Try to challenge yourself this year.
General:
Play an instrument, take up a new sport, audition for a play, or do
anything new to you so you can have a new perspective. It will also
show how you are able to adjust to different environments.
Begin to take ownership of your own education. You will need to start
talking to teachers, or take an summer programs. If you need to get
recommendations, you will need to get it from those who has mentored
you, taught you, or just from your guidance counselor.
As you begin to take more programs or any activities besides your
regular education, you will need to keep a journal. In this journal,
you would have to begin writing what you would want to have in your
future.
Write about what you like, dislike, hopes, desires, and what you
find interesting. This will give you a better idea of what you
would want as a career. (Here are some sample questions from
College Board.)
Try to get your driving exam. This is the year where you will be able
to take your exam. During junior year, you might not have enough time
to even think of having your permit, since it will be a very serious
year. So try it this year and get it off your shoulders!
Test:
If you have taken any state exams, such as the PSAT, try to fix your
mistakes. Try practicing more with Khan Academy (there is
SAT Prep.)
Study Tips:
You will have to lose your excuses. You have to take initiative in
what you have to do in order to pass our exams. No matter how hard or
easy they are.
Try planning ahead. If you have an exam coming up, you will have to
make time to try to study for it. This is where prioritizing comes in!
You have to know what is more important.
If there is multiple test coming, then you would have to study for
the first test, whether it be days ahead, or a period ahead.
Get into a study group. This can go into two ways: Either beneficial
or not so beneficial. The best anyone can get out of a study group is
surrounding yourself who will take it serious and know more or less
what the topic is.
You can create a study group with your friends, however, know when
to have fun and when to get serious.
Making flash cards is a great way to study for quizzes.
Eat, Practice, Rest, Repeat!
Try to not to eat junk food, eat more healthy foods. The sugar
rush will hit you in the beginning, but it will go down more
quickly. Eat brain foods like nuts and fruits.
Practice by making your original exam. Write down questions from
your notes and try to answer them. You could either do it when
index cards or through Quizlet.
After a time of studying, you will need to relieve your stress.
Try taking a nap or call it a day. The worst thing that could
happen is being half-awake during the exam. If you are half-awake,
the stress of you studying would’ve been a waste because you will
be too tired to remember. Do not overwhelm yourself! If something
is still unclear, talk to the teacher or another student in the
morning.
